If you rely on Children's Mercy, here's what's changing. The hospital eliminated 115 jobs, most in "non-clinical administrative, leadership and support roles," it said Monday. Another 473 revenue cycle and scheduling employees will move to , a revenue cycle management partner.

Multiple sources told KMBC that patient-facing roles were also affected, including a nurse practitioner and a social worker. The hospital didn't answer KMBC's questions about which positions were cut or how much it expects to save. Parent Kasey Jackson, whose son Elijah has been treated for lymphoblastic leukemia since 2021, said she wants "patients first and not profits first, not expansion first."

  • ACA Marketplace: insurers won't include the hospital in-network Jan. 1, 2027
  • Hospital says the tower and job cuts are funded separately

In a statement, the hospital said the new tower is needed because existing capacity would meet only 67% of projected total bed needs and 40% of projected NICU demand by 2031.

Without a new tower, 2031 capacity would fall short, the hospital says
