City Sidewalks Tree Festival 2026

About this event

Each year, the North Kansas City Business Council, the City of North Kansas City, local businesses, organizations, and clubs from North Kansas City High School help transform the area into a winter wonderland, featuring uniquely decorated trees along Armour Road and Swift Avenue.

Be part of the fun by sponsoring and decorating a tree for the City Sidewalks Tree Festival! Show off your organization's holiday spirit and creativity while spreading some seasonal cheer! Registration will open in October. Registration ends Friday, Nov. 13th, or when all trees are sold.

Trees will be installed about one week after registration closes, depending on when we receive our shipment, with decorating beginning mid- to late November. A deadline will be established for tree decorating that will likely be early in the first week of December.

Winners are expected to be announced on Thursday, Dec. 3rd, at the North Kansas City Business Council's Holiday Magic Dinner & Auction at Harrah's Casino and Hotel.

Decorating Categories include three possible themes (choose one):

• Traditional Themed Christmas Tree

Put your own creative spin on a classic holiday tree. Think festive colors, ornaments, ribbons, lights, and a cohesive seasonal theme—such as a winter wonderland, vintage Christmas, candy canes, woodland holiday, or elegant gold and silver. This category celebrates the timeless look and joy of the season.

• Business Themed Tree

Showcase your business, services, team, or company story in a creative and memorable way. Use colors, products, tools of your trade, or a playful interpretation of what your organization does to create a tree that helps the community get to know your business.

• North Pole Meets North Kansas City

Bring a playful, family-friendly North Pole scene to life with a North Kansas City twist. Think holiday workshops, reindeer routes, toy shops, gingerbread storefronts, elves at local landmarks, or your own imaginative version of a festive NKC destination.

Need help decorating?

North Kansas City High School "Elves" will be available on a limited, first-come, first-served basis to decorate trees for those who wish to participate but are unable to decorate a tree themselves. There is a $50 fee for the use of NKCHS elves, with proceeds going to the decorating clubs.

Please note: The "Elves" may choose to decorate your tree to reflect their high school club or align with the 2026 theme. All trees decorated by the North Kansas City High School "Elves" will compete against one another to see which club best captures the holiday spirit. The winning team of "Elves" will receive a $100 check from the North Kansas City Business Council to support the club!
